JEEVAN SINGH TAMIL

(Formerly Mr. Jeevan Kumar Malla)
Advocate at the Supreme Court of India

Vote for Ganna Kisan !

Jeevan Singh was born in 1972 into the family of a humble Dalit couple in the remote hamlet of Kadodipannai, Tuticorin District of Tamil Nadu. His grandfather was a landless agricultural laborer and his father was the first person to be educated in the thousands-year-old oppressed system that considered them as outcasts and unworthy of education.

His father was approached by Christian missionaries while Jeevan was still a child and moved by their promise of freedom from the shackles of the caste system, the whole family embraced Christianity.
He attended school at St. Mary Boys Hr. Sec School, Tuticorin, and Pope’s Hr Sec School, Sawyer Puram. Later he graduated from V.O.C College and pursued law at Dr Ambedkar Law University, in Chennai.

As a Dalit child, he experienced segregation and discrimination meted out to the marginalized segments of the society and learned to question and challenge it. He found that Christianity did not offer the emancipation and empowerment needed to transform the society at large. His spiritual quest continued.
As he began his law practice in Chennai, Jeevan got the opportunity to meet Mr. Henry Tephen, the then-director of the popular human rights organization – People’s Watch. This meeting had a remarkable influence on him and he began to speak up for the rights of the repressed segment of the society who had no voice.
As a human rights activist, he participated in and led many agitations against violations of fundamental human dignity and rights such as the campaign against custodial torture,   a campaign to save the river Tamira Arani, the campaign against alcoholism, and the anti-Coca-Cola campaign. He also led several protests for the land rights of Dalits, adivasis, and other religious minorities particularly Dalit women who are the lowest of the low among victims of oppression in India. His activism helped many people but he also faced a dozen cases that were filed against him for standing up, which he eventually fought and won.

It was during these days that he learned the power of Politics. It dawned on him that — “Power alone can destroy power,”  and that ‘Miri & Piri’ (temporal and spiritual strength) are the key to the survival of the marginalized in India. He found inspiration in the principles of Periyar’s social justice and rationality, and Babu Kanshiram’s spiritual and economical emancipation ideology rooted in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Kanshiram being the only political leader in India, who openly declared in the Indian parliament that Sri Guru Grant Sahib is his party’s manifesto, led Jeevan to the Sikh ideology of equality & social justice. He started studying Sikhism after a thorough study of Buddhism.
By this time Jeevan Kumar had become a practicing advocate in the Supreme Court of India. In 2009, Jeevan contested a parliamentary election in Tuticorin parliamentary constituency, Tamil Nadu on behalf of the Bahujan Samaj Party.

In 2019, he founded the Bahujan Drivada Party and contested against Mr Narendra Modi in Varanasi but his nomination file was rejected, about which he filed a case against the election commission. In 2019, Jeevan declared that all Dalits & other downtrodden have no other option other than to embrace the Sikh panth & follow the principles & guidance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Today Jeevan Kumar Malla is Sardar Jeevan Singh. He started following the Sikh way of life gradually starting with reading the Guru Granth Sahib and learning Punjabi and inspiring his party people to do the same.

He is contesting on behalf of his party in the Hoshiarpur parliamentary seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on 1st June 2024. This seat was won by Babu Kanshiram in 1996.

As an inheritor to the legacy of Guru Nanak, Bhai Lalo and Bhai Sahib Singh Ji, a beloved one from southern India, Jeevan seeks the support of all visionaries of social justice to join his mission of ‘Begumpura Khalsa Raj’ — a rule of the land that promises to protect fundamental rights of every human being irrespective of their religion, caste, class or gender.
